The Alignment was a project
begun too late. Local groups around San Lois Obispo, California were trying
to prevent the extension of the State Water Project into their area. Lack of
water was the only factor preventing rampant growth in this uncrowded corner
of California. We were commissioned to photograph the route of the proposed
pipeline, a thin line through a vast landscape. The pictures would accompany
a series of essays about the probable impacts of artificially abundant water
in this arid region. The pipeline was approved before these photographs we able
to be put to use.
